Ray Wampler

  Ray was born on February 21, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He enlisted in the Navy in December 1942.

  His first ship was the Escalante.  It was an oil tanker.  Ray escorted a convoy to Casablanca in North Africa.  He was then assigned to a new ship named #320.  This ship was a landing ship able to deliver goods to the beaches in the Pacific.  He was a gunner's mate. 

  Ray was discharged in February of 1946.
