John L. Cuneo


John Louis “Junior” Cuneo was born in Connellsville on Sept. 7, 1921. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1938 and began working for Robertshaw Controls in New Stanton, PA. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 29, 1942 at the age of 20. He trained as an aviation cadet. John was a career military officer and pilot flying planes during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.


John met and married his wife, Sara, after a brief courtship and together they raised four children. She passed away in 1985. Their children were Michael of Salem, Oregon, Nick of Jacksonville, Florida, Sally of Monmouth, Oregon and Haley of Dallas, Texas. They also had 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

John died on March 15, 2005 (83 yrs. old) in Monmouth, Oregon. He was buried at Fort Huachuca Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
