CPL. Adeline Loretta George, AACS
Adeline was born on 22 October 1917 in Connellsville, the youngest of eight siblings born to the late Luca and Cristina (Fasano) Giorgio, immigrants from Colliano, Salerno, Italy.
Adeline enlisted in the WAC's (Women's Army Corps) on 07 September 1944 after having served fro several years as the Assistant Clerk for the Fayette County Local Draft Board Number 1 in the Post Office Building.
She entered active service on 18 October 1944, being first sent to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia for training and then as Private First Class to Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls, Texas where she served at the Overseas Screening and Replacement Center of the 78th Army Air Force Base Unit.
In October 1945, she was promoted to Corporal in the AACS (Army Airways Communications System). She was honorably discharged on 30 January 1946, and returned to Connellsville to resume her duties at the Local Draft Board, where she served as the Chief Clerk until her retirement. CPL. George passed away on 13 July 2014, at the age of 96, and is buried in Saint Rita's Cemetery, Connellsville.
