Norman Thomas Murray

Norman Murray served as a Second Class Gunner in Bat. H 2nd C Artillery, US Army, and spent much of WWII in the Philippines. was awarded numerous medals.

Norman Murray was born on January 6, 1923 in Lemont Furnace, PA to Elijah and Addie Mills Murray. He lived in Dunbar for most of his life.

He married Marion Shelley of Scottdale, PA and they had four children: Donna, Norma Lee, Norman, Jr. and Shelley.

Norman worked for the West Penn Company in Connellsville until the family moved to Florida in 1958.

Norman worked as a supervisor for the Florida Department of Transportation until his death on July 11, 1972.

Serving in the armed forces are four sons of Mrs. Addie Murray and the late E. L. Murray of Dunbar. They are Pfc. Norman Murray, Ship-fitter 2/c James Murray, Pfc. George Murray and Seaman 2/c Milton Murray. Below is Pvt. Kenneth Murray, son of the late Mrs. Susan Murray and foster grandson of Mrs. Addie Murray.

Pfc. Norman Murray is a graduate of Dunbar High School and was employed at the glass factory in Dunbar before entering the service. He is not stationed at Camp Macon, North Carolina.

Ship-fitter 2/c James Murray is overseas with the SeeBees. Prior to his enlistment he was an iron worker in Detroit, Mich. His wife Mrs. Sylvia Murray is residing in Detroit at the present time.

Pfc George Murray is a graduate of North Union Township High School and is now stationed in Manchester, Conn., for his military training.

Milton Murray, Seaman 2/c is training at Pensacola, Florida. Milton was employed with a railroad company near Dunbar before entering the service.

Private Kenneth Murray, who was recently home to visit relatives on a 15 - day furlough, is stationed at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. Private Murray was employed at Lemont prior to entering the armed forces.
