Imogene “Imy” Keffer Swink

Lieutenant – United States Navy - Registered Nurse

Imogene completed nurse’s training it Pennsylvania where, among other duties, she attended the birth of Franklin Delano Roosevelt III. She joined the reserves and in December 1942 was called to active duty. She served at naval hospitals in Philadelphia, PA, Norfolk, VA, and in Balboa, Panama, c.z. 

Upon completion of her service in 1946, she returned to Connellsville. She took flying lessons at Connellsville Airport and became the first female in Fayette County to complete a solo flight. There she met and eventually married L. S. “Pete” Swink, an Army Air Corps veteran who was ROG in Europe.

Imogene passed away in 1986.
