Lester (Pete) Swink

T/Sgt - Radio operator/gunner

100th Bomb group – “The Bloody Hundredth”, so named due to the heavy losses it sustained. He was shot down 11 September 1944 during the battle over the Ore Mountains. He was captured by the Germans and was a POW at Stalag Luft 4, which is where Wade Swink was also interred. After returning to Connellsville he met and eventually married Imogene Keffer, who was a lieutenant in the Navy, serving in Philadelphia, Norfolk, VA, and Panama. He would never talk about his war experience, and we soon learned not to ask. He died in 1975.
